1979 CHALLENGE CUP FINAL - Widnes v Wakefield TrinityOn this Rugby League Nostalgia DVD you can remember the 1979 Cup Final at Wembley won by Widnes (above) against Wakefield Trinity. Captained by Doug Laughton and featuring players like Reg Bowden, Eric Hughes, big Jim Mills, Mick Adams, Mal Aspey, Keith Elwell, Mick Burke and flying winger Stuart Wright, the Chemics just got ahead of a gallant Trinity after a scoreless first half. Despite finishing on the losing side,
Wakefield skipper David Topliss (left) won the Lance Todd Trophy award as man of the match and he had fine support from team-mates like Mike Lampkowski, the
talented Bill Ashurst, Alan McCurrie, Trevor Skerrett, Graham Idle, Keith Smith and the Rayne twins. It was also a day when survivors of the first Wembley Cup Final in 1929 paraded in front of the
famous Twin Towers, fifty years on from their pioneering occasion.
