More Information1989 WIDNES v CANBERRA
In the autumn of 1989, WIDNES were crowned the World Club Champions of Rugby League after their breath-taking victory over the Australian champions, the Canberra Raiders.
On this DVD you can re-live that remarkable night at Old Trafford, Manchester as the “Chemics” came back from an early Canberra onslaught to run the Raiders off their feet. It was a wonderful
moment for the Widnes club and for the British game as - with only three none Brits.
in their squad - the men from Naughton Park played the swashbuckling brand of football that had become their trademark under coach Doug Laughton.
The Widnes team was
captained by Kurt Sorensen, and included stars like Alan Tait, Martin Offiah and Jonathan Davies, alongside outstanding local boys like Andy Currier, Richie Eyres and the Hulme brothers.
On the Canberra team were top Australian Test players Mal Meninga and Laurie
Daley, plus the wing wizard John Ferguson.
